Miss South Carolina USA 2017

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

My name is Catherine Ivey. I am so excited to anounce I have been given the opportunity to compete in the Miss South Carolina USA 2017 pageant in North Charleston this November as Miss Midlands USA.  I can’t wait to represent my wonderful area in the state competition this fall, and should things go as well as I hope, I will go on to compete in the nationally televised Miss USA pageant and possibly even the Miss Universe Pageant in 2017.

I have grown up in the Midlands, spefically Columbia, all my life, so it is an honor to have the opportunity to represent my area. I dream of being Miss South Carolina USA 2017, but I can’t do it alone.  A donation of any amount will help, and I greatly appreciated your contribution or even consideration.

About me:

I am currently a junior Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I am involved in Greek Life as a Zeta Tau Alpha. Through Zeta, I have been able to be an advocate for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. We are partnered with the NFL,  American Cancer Society, and Bright Pink.   I am advocate for the Wofford Community as a cheerleader, and I am an advocate for the Spartanburg community as a YoungLife leader. The timing to compete has never felt right until now and I can't be more excited to share this journey with you and potentially serve my state.

My motivation for the pageant is wanting to “Uplift to Outshine”. I believe through uplifting people and increasing mental health, one can achieve their best and happiest self to shine like they never have before . Moreover, the donations raised here will be divided between sponsoring my journey to the State pageant, Project Happiness, and The Smile Project. Now join me in taking this leap of faith and embarking on this journey as your potential next Miss South Carolina USA 2017 to make our state a happier and healthier community.

More on The Smile Project and what I want to do:

What is The Smile Project?

"The Smile Project is an organization designed to promote Happiness and Random Acts of Kindness through inspirational content and daily Happiness postings. The movement began on November 9th 2011, when Liz Buechele posted the first ever Daily Joy. “Day 1: Happiness is.. those perfect car rides where the radio just plays all the right songs.” From there, the daily posts grew and the mission of kindness spread. Since then, the organization has evolved into a motivational hub for all things happy."

What I want to do with the Smile Project?

I want to raise enough money to plant "SPARK" clubs in South Carolina. It costs money to bring them into schools for materials such as The Smile Club t-shirt and funds for promoting and doing Random Acts of Kindness.

"SPARK clubs are the starting point for bringing happiness and kindness into communities across America. The Smile Project is currently running a pilot in Pennsylvania, at Westminster College where they recently hosted a booth at the back to school activity fair and filled 8 pages with the names of interested students. To learn more about this initiative or to start a SPARK club in your community, visit the-smile-project.com"

What is Project Happiness?

"We believe that every person can learn ways to become happier by developing awareness about the choices we all make in the face of day to day challenges.  As we become more aware of who we are, master our emotions more effectively, recognize our strengths, and build our character, we cultivate compassion for ourselves and for others.

Our purpose is to provide proven techniques to cultivate one’s own authentic happiness. Drawn from research in neuroscience, mindfulness and positive psychology, Project Happiness’ strength-based approach teaches vital social and emotional skills. Using books, film and educational programs, we’re empowering children, families and communities to create happier, more meaningful lives."

Sincerely,

Catherine Ivey, Miss Midlands USA 2017.
