Missionary Trip - Lazareni, Romania

Donation protected
I am writing this appeal with a heart full of love and compassion. As a Christian I feel God’s heart and sorrow when His children are suffering in poverty and persecution.

In July this year Myself, Meg and John will be going to Lazareni, Romania for 8 days on a missionary trip. We will be representing Family Church Gateshead:

For this life changing opportunity will be teaming up with 8 members of Kings Church Bolton to make a considerable impact in an area where there is so much need and opportunity for the gospel.

The charity we will be working along side and supporting is The Caleb Foundation.

The Caleb Foundation was founded in 2001 by our dear missionary friends John & Suzie Fenlason who had an incredible passion for the gypsies in the village or Lazconsiderable impact in an area where there is so much opportunity for the gospel.

Will you please stand with Myself, Meg and John as we go and share the Gospel, Love like Jesus and meet the simple needs in a community that we take for granted everyday by donating anything you to raise the funds for this missionary trip and supplies. You can make huge difference to a village that needs to know they Are precious, unique loved and children of God.

Together we can make a difference by simply loving people, stepping out in faith, being bold and courageous and leaving behind our comforts to meet the needs of others.

Time is the most precious gift you can give someone because you cannot purchase time.

Lazareni is a community in Bihor County, Northwestern Romania with a population of around 3000. Within Lazareni there is a large Gypsy Community with a population of 416 people – made up of 116 men, 118 women, 182 children. Making a community with 86 families units these 86 families are split between 65 houses and the majority average family size in this Gypsy Community is made up of 6 people.

The current employment status of the community is 2% leaving 98% of its inhabitants unemployed. The Roma Gypsy children were originally being educated through a private school that The Caleb Foundation successfully ran from 2002, this school was closed in 2010 due to a governmental/EU decision to integrate the Roma children into state schools to help reduce discrimination and achieve better harmony. Unfortunately this decision has had a negative impact on the Roma Gypsy children who daily face discrimination and resentment from the local non-Roma children resulting in their attendance to the state school dropping to 50%.

During these years there have been four attempts to drill for water as the village never had drinkable water, or no water for that matter. Unfortunately each attempt had the same undesired result. The water issue is still unresolved however for the shower units we were able to put a huge tank in the ground and the mayor who has seen our desire to help the gypsy kids integrate in the public schools, will provide the water.

Hence, as a result of this Caleb Foundation decided to initiate a number of initiatives to counteract this.

Throughout the years John and Suzie have encountered many difficulties in their attempt to help the Roma people. Nothing stopped them from showing their love towards the gypsy people in a way the gypsies understood it. Like: providing food and clothing for the little ones, help most of them build safer little modest houses that were much better than the huts they had before, providing electricity for most villagers, providing a place where the kids could attend kindergarten and school, teaching the men to provide for their families and starting a little church where their faith was strengthened every Sunday.

The Caleb Foundation’s main objectives are found in four different areas of involvement:

Social – Economical
Humanitarian
Educational
Moral – Spiritual
These Objectives are achieved by:
- Helping to create a better quality of life and living conditions and economic status for the marginalized minorities
- Providing humanitarian aid for those not able to provide for themselves especially families with low or no income
- Educate and integrate the minorities in order to help them earn a decent living
- Protect the children’s rights using all legal means including adoption
- Assisting the marginalized children, young people and adults in developing and improving their intellectual abilities through schooling, training, workshops, Bible study
- Providing material aid as well as moral-spiritual support for those in need
- Assist the young people to integrate in society
- Organize camps, field trips, training sessions and sport events for young people
- Raise funds in order to achieve the proposed objectives

There is still lots of work to be done and with the help of God and people willing to help fund this missionary trip, we dare to see a great future for the Rroma people of Lazareni!
