Mission: Restore Climbs Kilimanjaro

At the end of June, Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness and support around one the most neglected epidemics of our time: the global surgical gap.
This June, Mission: Restore will train over 50 surgeons in Mombasa, Kenya. At the conclusion of this training, Dr. Alizadeh and other Mission: Restore members will be making the climb up the storied Mt. Kilimanjaro. The mountain stands at 19,341 feet, making it the highest peak in Africa!
Our goal is to raise $1 for every foot of the hike ($19,341) to train more surgeons and increase access to surgical care across East Africa. A generous donor has already pledged to match every donation 1:1. So every dollar donated gets Dr. Alizadeh 2 feet closer to the summit!
Road accidents and trauma are the primary causes of death for over 5 million people worldwide. That is more than the annual mortality caused by AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria….COMBINED. Families living in the poorest countries with the weakest health systems are disproportionately affected, and many of these deaths could be prevented with the availability of trained surgeons.
That’s where Mission: Restore comes in.
Founded by Dr. Alizadeh in 2010, Mission: Restore is comprised of doctors who volunteer their time and expertise to train and support young surgeons in developing countries. The overarching goal is to create a sustainable infrastructure where long-term relationships are forged and permanent change is made through education in essential life-saving care.
