VOH Relief Mission - Africa

Donation protected

Village of Hope in Malawi Africa helps kids from newborn to 14 with health care, education and community living. 70% of kids suffer from pneumonia-like illnesses, 60% are HIV positive and need special care.

This year, the village had opened spots for 15 new kids and ended up with an influx of 300!

The staff there are super heros and I’m heading over to relieve some of the workers who are overwhelmed, at least for a short while, to help the strain they endure.

Your donation will help me and others get there and provide a much needed hand.

Story time.
The day after I returned from my first mission trip from an impoverished area of the Dominican Republic, I thought about what I had learned. How a lack of basic knowledge of health and skills keep women and their children prisoners of their impoverished life. For example, did you know that some young women believe drinking a cola after sex can prevent them from getting pregnant? That breast milk will make their baby sick?

Mind blowing.

It's clear, education really is the key. But not in they way we traditionally think it should be done. That was the biggest lesson. To remain brief, it truly comes down to training community women champions who in turn help other women get involved in their community through "home-ec" classes and reward-based programs. I was absolutely floored. It worked so well, husbands were asking for education to not be overshadowed by their wives. One young mom actually became an entrepreneur. The possibilities are there my friends.

This hit home in more ways than one. As a start-up founder of a social good tech company, we're building a tool that help employers recognize and celebrate employees who go out into the community and give back. The same principal applies. Give back. Get involved. Grow strong through growing your community stronger.

So why does this mission matter so much to me?
Because of the work that I do, I have the privilege of speaking to kids and adults alike about the importance of discovering what gift you were born with and working hard to give back to the world in unimaginable ways. the stories that I collect I bring back into the classrooms and business discussions to help influence the world around me and help others do the same to build a stronger sense of purpose in what we do and why we do it.

Why do YOU matter so much to me?
God always seems to make sure we always have something missing so we have to rely on others to help. As a start-up owner, much of my time and money has been invested in our humble start-up. In time, I'm confident Porpoise.com will grow into an amazing company and I have no doubt I will be able to fund opportunities for others to pursue their calling to build up this world in their own way too. But for now, I must rely on the heart of those moved to help.

Why should you care?
I see you already have a heart, you're here reading this. Sometimes you're led down a path because that's where and how you're needed. I hope this is for you.

So where will this be?
(from the website) "Village of Hope provides education and healthcare to children in need as well as a place to live for those who have nowhere else to go. Village of Hope’s mission is to bring lasting hope to children at risk so that they can embrace adulthood as independent and contributing members of society."

I'm resting on the fact that it's God and not me that moves the right hearts to help. When you pray to be used for God's kingdom, sometimes he makes it clear. Like this mission for me. If you're like me, and have asked to be used, maybe this is what speaks to you. Though you can't help every one, but maybe next time, you can think of me.

Thanks and God bless!
