Mira's Tongue Amputation Surgery

Donation protected

On September 19, 2019, my sweet girl, Mira, experienced a horrific
accident that resulted in emergency surgery to amputate part of her tongue.

The Accident

Mira went missing for a day and when she returned home, she was in terrible shape. There was blood around her mouth, part of her tongue was hanging out, and was a dark purple color. Her eyes didn't look normal; she looked dazed and in shock. She was dirty and limping.

I rushed her to an emergency vet clinic. We do not know exactly what happened to her, but we believe she was enticed by something on a mouse trap, which snapped on her tongue when she licked it. The vet said there was a clear line across her tongue and that the purple part had already started decaying.

The options were to amputate part of her tongue and install a feeding tube in her neck, or put her down. I knew I had to go forward with the surgery. I wasn't about to give up on her after she had fought through pain and terror to get free from the mouse trap and find her way back home where she knew she'd be safe.

The surgery went well and Mira is happy to be home now, purring and cuddling with us. However, she is unable to eat, drink, or groom herself. We feed her through the tube in her neck every 6 hours and clean her up as needed. There is hope that she will recover use of her tongue as she continues to heal. If she can learn to eat on her own again, we will be able to remove the feeding tube.

About Mira
Mira is a sweet and adventurous 6 year old cat that I adopted in 2015. She's curious and brave, always eager to explore and investigate new spaces. She is very independent but also loving and cuddly.

Mira has helped me cope with severe depression and anxiety over the years. She comforts and encourages me when I need it. She gives me a reason to fight depression every day.

Now Mira is facing her own battle and it is my turn to repay her. I will be with her every step of the way to encourage her as she learns to adapt to this difficult disability. It will be a long road to recovery, but Mira is a very strong-willed and intelligent cat. I am confident she will be able to overcome this tragic event.

The Costs of Surgery & Recovery

·  $967.71 - Surgery and hospitalization
·  $42.63 - Medicine
·  $47.60 - Prescription food
·  $90.85 - Home supplies

A total of $1148.79 has been spent since Mira's accident. I do not have the cash for this unexpected expense and have had to charge everything to a credit card. Any amount you can donate will be incredibly appreciated.

How You Can Help

·  Donate money - any amount you can give will be forever appreciated and will make a difference toward paying off Mira's surgical bills as well as assist with her future care.

·  Share Mira's story
- help get the word out to other people! If you can't donate, please share this link so that others will see it who may be in a position to help.

·  Comment below - Any resources, information, or knowledgeable advice is greatly welcome. Very little information is available online about tongue amputations on cats. I would love to get in contact with anyone who has experienced a similar situation.

Mira and I thank you for your time and any help you can provide.
