Miranda's China Trip

Hi! My name is Miranda Stewart and I'm trying to raise money to attend a music education conference in Xi'an, China. I am a middle school chorus teacher who is completing my second year of teaching in Hillsborough County. I work at a Magnet Arts School and teach anywhere from 130-200 students every single day. I am a graduate of The Florida State University and plan on going back in the Summer of 2018 to pursue a Master's in Music Education at Florida State.
I currently have the very unique and privileged opportunity to travel with a chorus I'm a member of, Festival Singers of Florida, to fly to Xi'an and Beijing to attend a 7 day Choral Festival and actually sing on the Great Wall of China!
The group I'm a member of is completely voluntary. We meet 3 times a year to rehearse and have a Fall and Spring Concert. Concerts occur mainly in Orlando, Florida which requires all members to travel to this location. The group is made up of mainly music teachers from around the state. Some of us are driving from Miami and Pensacola to perform a 1 hour concert, and then drive back home. We are not compensated for any money spent to attend these concerts. Two years ago, this same group gave me the life-changing opportunity to fly to Nairobi, Kenya and sing with the Nairobi Chamber Choir. This 9 day trip completely changed my outlook on the world around me and introduced me some amazing friends.
My hope is to further my appreciation for the world around me through the wonderful common language of music. The only issue is I'm currently living off of a teacher's salary, while also trying to start my Master's Degree in music education next summer. I have started saving to further my education, but didn't account for this grand trip to China to be a part of the picture. So here's where the GoFundMe comes in.
Everything for this trip has been paid for by the organization running the Chinese Music Education Conference. The only thing we've been asked to cover is our travel expenses. A flight to Xi'an, China ranges anywhere from $1,200 to $1,500. I need to be able to purchase this flight no later than June 5th to still attend the conference. So, I need your help!
I'm not used to asking others for money, especially on a platform such as this, but I didn’t want to allow this opportunity to pass me by. I am continuing to work over the summer to save money. I am reaching out to my school district for grants because this is a music conference. I have asked for help from my own school, but everywhere I turn, educational expenses like this one aren't given the time of day. I make a difference in my classroom, in my students lives, because of the people I meet and the experiences I have on these trips. I have made life-long friends in Nairobi who I speak to on Facebook all the time! I would be thankful beyond words to have your support and help to cover my travel expenses to China. It would mean the world to me! So, if you can support me at all, know that you have made a significant difference to this Chorus Director who is counting literal pennies to pull this trip off!
