Miracles for Madelyn

Donation protected
Madelyn Olivia Smith is our little dancer, artist, and cuddle bug. She is a creative and clever four year old with a passion for reading, crafts, and the outdoors. Often times Madelyn can be found in the yard picking flowers and playing with her little brother; being fancy with her makeup and accessories; doing arts and crafts for mommy; or simply enjoying some quiet time with a good book. She loves school and loves playgrounds. Her favorite colors are pink and purple and she is an all-around “girly girl” who can’t wait to be a mommy when she grows up. Perhaps most importantly, she has a deep love for her baby brother, family, friends, and cousins that is only shadowed by the love she has for her mommy.

Sadly, Madelyn was recently diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, occurring in fewer than 1,000 cases per year and accounting for only 1% of all childhood cancers. The doctors are still uncertain on aspects of this disease as it does not completely match to a previously identified form of sarcoma – in other words it’s a best guess on the form of cancer and which treatment plan is appropriate. Our journey over the next year will include all inpatient hospital treatments, consisting of week long stretches of chemotherapy, surgery, tests, and even some more chemotherapy.

Madelyn is determined and uncompromising in everything she puts her mind to. She is bold and fearless when focused on what her heart desires yet also timid and uncertain as a little girl in a big new world. Facing cancer will undoubtedly be a challenge, however, it is this determination and uncompromising resolve in everything she puts her mind to that we, even as adults, could learn and benefit from through application in our own lives. Yet, even with the fiercest strength and determination of will, it is not we who are in control and it is not our will which we seek.

We look to God, creator of all things, to carry us through this journey and deliver us from adversity. It is with heavy heart that we watch our daughter suffer and fear the moments of each day and we ask for your strength in prayer and community to rise up with us as we help our little girl face this challenge, beat it into submission, and marvel at the power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for your prayer and support. God bless.
