Miracle's 1000 Mermaids Reef Module

The #1000Mermaids Artificial Reef Project set a goal to create 1000 body sculptures made-up of a sustainable concrete in the form of mermaids which allows infant coral to adhere to it and restore Florida’s living coral reef population. Each cast will be individually handcrafted by Miami Body Cast and turned into beautiful artificial reef modules courtesy of reef builder Chris O'hare from Reef Cells / CXOART.
These mermaid modules will then be strategically laid along the ocean floor of Fort Lauderdale Florida’s east coast in collaboration with Broward County's Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department in the Environmental Planning And Community Resilience Division.
Not only does this project promote eco-friendly awareness of our reef situation and support for the ocean by de-stressing the natural reef, but it will also become the stage for a world-renowned snorkeling destination creating eco-tourism and endless education opportunities in addition to countless other benefits for our community.
Meet Miracle
She came to CDTC after leaving a 6 month stay in the NICU. She was born at just 24 weeks….
She left with a g-tube to ensure she would get the fluid and calories she needed to grow. She also had deformities in her feet.
She received early intervention services through the Early Steps Program and is currently receiving Health Education and Medical Case Management as part of our Patient Centered Medical Home.
She has come so very far in her short four and a half years. Miracle’s g-tube has been removed. She’s eating well on her own. Her bubbly personality, quick speed and growing height certainly attest to lots of energy.
Her CDTC care team, led by Dr. La France, has also been helping to address her feet deformities. Miracle’s been through several surgeries to correct their position. She recently had surgery on her hip and was in a body cast for several weeks.
She is now walking with a cool purple walker and getting physical therapy.
Miracle is resilient. She’s a fighter and very strong willed. And, it’s guaranteed this vibrant little girl will always be smiling, happy and very talkative!

1000 Mermaids Reef Module For Miracle
Miracle has dreams and aspirations to be a Mermaid, and in collaboration with the 1000 Mermaids Artificial Reef Project & The Childrens Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) we are going to have Miracle's Mermaid Reef Module live forever on the ocean floor as part of this project! We will utilize the funds raised to body cast Miracle's precious legs to be affixed to her very own artificial reef module with your support, and are glad to include your name and/or companies name as a supporter of this project on a plaque to be affixed to the reef as well as on-line.
Our target goal for creating and deploying this reef module is $7500, with funds raised above the goal being split 50/50 with the CDTC to make more artificial reef modules in what can end up being Miracle's own section of the Reef.
