Miracle preemie's Liam and Grey

Donation protected
This Go Fund Me is set up to support our friends Carley and Scott, and their preemie twin boys Liam and Grey.

For those of you who may not know Carley and Scott, they were overjoyed to announce their 3rd pregnancy in October of 2017. 8 weeks later at a routine ultrasound they find out that their single embryo had split and they were having identical twins! Carley and Scott were very excited at the news, however with twin pregnancies comes the potential for complications. Considering the twins would be sharing a placenta Carley’s pregnancy was deemed high risk, and would require frequent monitoring.

At only 18 weeks, Carley was informed that there was an issue on her ultrasound. Her twins had Twin-to-twin-transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a rare and serious medical complication that when left untreated has an 85% chance of fatality for both babies. Carley was sent immediately to BC Women’s Hospital to see a specialist who informed them the only option to try and save the babies would require surgery. The following day while on the operating table the Specialist decided that due to the location of the Carley’s placenta she would be unable to perform the delicate surgery. Carley’s only option was to travel to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto to see another Specialist able to perform the surgery.  Unfortunately due to the urgency of the issue travel costs to Toronto were very expensive at the cost of $4000 (none of which was covered by MSP).  The surgery went as well as could be expected but Carley needed to be monitored closely for the remainder of her pregnancy and was allowed very limited activity.  Unable to return to work Carley was unable to complete the hours needed to qualify for maternity or disability leave from work, causing further financial strain on the family.

At 23 weeks Carley was admitted to Surrey Memorial Hospital for ruptured membranes and bleeding. Her and the babies required close monitoring.

On March 28th, 2018 following a traumatic labour and emergency c-section, Carley and Scott Wickware welcomed their twin boys, Liam and Grey, to the world. At only 25weeks and 3 days, and each weighing under 2lbs, the boys required immediate interventions from Neonatal Specialists before being whisked away to the NICU. Due to their earlier arrival, 3 months prior to their due date, the boys will face an extensive stay in the NICU and will face many micro-premie challenges.

Because of their very early gestational age the twins are required to stay at Surrey Memorial Hospital an hour away from Carley and Scott’s home. Having 2 young boys at home they are unable to stay at the hospital with the twins and are commuting daily, often more than once a day due to the constant changing condition of the twins.

Due to all the unexpected events during this pregnancy, this lovely family of 6 is feeling the emotional, mental and financial strain of the situation. The lack of additional income and the accumulating financial costs of travelling to/from the hospital have taken a toll and the family is having difficulty making ends meet.

Any support you can give will go directly to Carley and Scott to help them pay for additional travel costs, parking costs, and medical bills. Anything would be greatly appreciated to help Carley and Scott through this difficult time.
