I'm Elaine, an Independent author creating my own promotional video content.
I want to create a really top-notch trailer/pitch video for my next project, an ongoing comic book/graphic novel series titled 'Minding Mama'.
The Story
Several centuries from now, the Earth's surface is a hostile place. Decades of intense solar flare activity have all but removed the protective ozone layer, leaving the surface largely unprotected from dangerous UV radiation. Whole species have been wiped out of existence above and below sea level, and Humanity has fled underground, leaving the surface to the Bots - Robots created to help mankind survive this catastrophic occurrence.
But the FarmBots in Mama's tight-knit community are old and falling into disrepair; due to the worn out Bots' inability to create sufficient UV-resistant plant life, food levels are dangerously low. Worried about her infant son's future, Mama begins to suspect that they may have been misled about the extent of the damage, and with her son, embarks on a dangerous voyage of discovery with faithful FarmBot Cyril.
The dangers they face and the truths they uncover during the series will keep you glued to the page!
Team Minding Mama
I have a brilliant team in Dan Schaefer (Dan has worked for Marvel, DC and Dark Horse Comics, and most recently was story board artist for NBC's 'Grimm'), Amanda Fullwood (who in addition to providing concept art, is also designing Mama's costume), Sue Turner (who will operate the camera and edit the footage), and Matthew Thomason (a talented young composer who created the haunting music for my first project, 'The Methuselah Paradox', two years ago).
Up front and centre will be our two cast members, Kate Davies-Speak ('Cannibal Farm' and the web series 'Horizon') and David Learner (who is well known to the science fiction community for his portrayal of Marvin the Paranoid Android in both stage and television productions of Douglas Adam's 'The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy').
Our Goal
Our Stage One goal is to raise sufficient funds to create a trailer/pitch video for Stage Two - creation and production of the first issue of 'Minding Mama'.
Comic Books have always been able to tell stories in a different way than movies or long-form novels, and I knew as soon as I had completed the original short story that this needed to be told using a visual medium!
For the trailer shoot taking place at the end of October, 2017, we need funds to pay for:
Hire of the venue
Hire of a green screen (so that we can put in some background later)
Music
Costume
Props
Artwork
Actor fees
Your Support and What it Means to Us
Your support will mean that we can make our trailer to a high standard, which will give us a much better chance of crowdfunding the graphic novel in a few month's time, and it means that I can put funds into the creative arts industry - and last but certainly not least, entertain the most discerning of comic book fans with our gripping story.
As an independent author with limited funding, I can't do this by myself - your support will enable me to take another step towards my goal of being a full-time writer, and to employ other creative people along the way.
