Mindin Crisis: mental health mayday

Donation protected
I am asking for your contribution to help raise funds for a trial scheme aiming to introduce permanent change to mental health care initially in the Bath (UK) area.

I would like to pilot Mindin Crisis, a 24hr/day, 365days/yr  mental health emergency response service, an equivalent to 999 but for mental health issues only.

A large percentage of 999 calls are for mental health incidents ranging from anxiety and panic attacks, to acute mental health emergencies such as manic episodes or schizophrenia. The emergency services are neither equipped nor trained to deal with mental health issues and to handle a person in crisis, effectively.  This results both in patients and their carers being let down by the system as well as taking time from resources that have nothing to offer in a mental health emergency.

Mindin Crisis will be a service that anyone could call. Our aims are:

To provide emergency response and intervention, by suitably trained professionals, to individuals in need of urgent help for emotional / mental health crises of both circumstantial and pathological nature.

To offer, on demand, counselling / therapy sessions and emergency treatment in response to call outs regarding generalised anxiety (bouts of depression, feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, panic, isolation, desperation, suicidal thoughts) as well as full blown, pathologically based psychiatric emergencies.

To instigate further treatment, if necessary, by liaising and negotiating with carers, the national healthcare services and relevant support systems, on behalf of the patient in crisis.

Mindin Crisis will utilise a team of counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists, admin and support staff, ready to respond to round the clock call outs.  Even though some of those professionals will offer their time and expertise for a discounted fee or even on a voluntary basis, we will still need a sum of 200000 to make a pilot scheme a reality.  The money would cover professional wages, medications, insurance, the rental of suitable premises, emergency phone line set up, website costs, the running, insurance and maintenance of response vehicles, bills and day to day expenses.

If we succeed in making the proposed pilot a reality, we will be in a good position to secure long term funding from investors and establish Mindin Crisis as a permanent, indispensable mental health service.

I hope you will support this. Mental health issues can and do affect us all and they do need urgent and effective attention by a dedicated team of suitably trained individuals.  Just because you can't see mental health problems, it does not mean they don't exist.  Out of sight is NOT out of mind!
