"Miles (~309.8786)"
Help me take the amazing talent of the students from schools of Dance, Drama, Film, and Design and production, to perform "Miles (~309.9786)" at the Hudson Guild Theater in the New York CIty!
The funds raised here will go towards the cast's traveling expenses from Winston Salem, NC, to NYC on May 31st, and housing May 31st-June 2nd.
My name is Roza Savelyeva. I am a performance artist and choreographer working with artists of different disciplines. I will recieve my BFA in Contemporary Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts this May (Check out my website to learn more about my work).

This year I took a leap of faith to create "Miles," a project I have been carrying in my head for a couple of years.
The piece was originally called "(~107.99829)" and it premiered as a part of the Emerging Choreographers Showcase at UNCSA in November 2016. I am experimenting with the relationships of the performers on stage to each other. What can dancers and musicians teach each other about performance? Is it necessary to maintain the boundary between them? Is one more important than the other? How can equality be achieved? How can the audiences of concert art and bar bands can be brought together for this guided experience? How can songs by Nirvana that carry a very specific baggage influence the way one looks at contemporary concert dance? 
Seeing the piece on stage for the first time made me realize the need to allow the time for physical and emotional intensity to build up to its extreme, collapse completely, and rise from the ashes refreshed in the space vibrant with creativity. This made me concentrate more on the work's effect on the audiece and inspired me to put together a self produced performance of the next iteration of the piece, "(~208.79829)," on January 21, 2017.
In this version I put more emphasis on the humanness of the performers allowing the audience time to build a personal connection to each character. Each performer works in and out of their art form (you see dancers sing, and play music, actors, filmmakers, and musicians dance), diluting any expectations of being “good” at something, and creating a world on the stage by simply being in the moment. Exploring the physicality of Nirvana's performance quality, performers dive into an abstract world of sincere physical and emotional commitment allowing the audience to follow them on this roller coaster.
I was extremely fortunate to recieve an opportunity to showcase "Miles" in NYC as a part of the Sans Limites Dance Festival on June 2, 2017.
I am still waiting to hear back form grants I have applyed for to cover the $500 festival fee, including all the neccesary theater services, and a $200 stipend for the performers, who will be working with me the whole month of May to further craft the piece for the NY performance, we still need to raise enough money to be able to travel to NYC for our performance, and your donation will help to make this happen.
