Aloha!
My name is Kathleen, and I am the daughter of Mila, a Kidney Peritoneal Dialysis Patient. As some of you may know, my family and I have been on a long bitter quest asking, searching, and praying specifically for that one compatible Type-O donor to show up in our path and donate a kidney for my mother… then after 5 enduring years of her being wait-listed for one of the rarest blood types, a living donor match was finally found!
Although the surgery and pain medications will be partially taken care of, air travel to and from Maui and San Francisco, hotel lodging, meals, and land travel for both my parents will not. The average hospital stay will be about two to five days after surgery, then she would have to remain close to UCSF Medical Center for at least two to three weeks after surgery, typically at a nearby hotel. And in case she experiences any problems during her recovery, she would then have to return to the UCSF.
Given only a week to prepare, I'm hoping this GoFundMe campaign will help raise about $20k to alleviate these expenses while my parents are away from home for the month, and then back home to recover for another month. With my father taking time off from work to tend my mother, every little bit will be so graciously appreciated.
We are ever grateful for all those who have kept up their faith and prayed for this day to come, for the people in motion that are helping make this transplant a reality, and for the monetary blessings that we hope to receive.
