Milan's Medical Fund

Our daughter, Milan, has  moved from the Oncology wing to the Rheumatology wing at Stanford. She still gets her monthly screening to monitor cancer markers but she is also fighting Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Systemic means it effects more than 5 joints and in her case, it effects all her joints.  SLE is an auto immune disorder where her body mistakes its healthy white blood cells as unhealthy and attacks them which causes all of her joints to swell up to the point where she can't move. It can also effect her brain, kidneys, spleen and other major organs if not treated properly.  The doctors aren't sure what triggers the immune system to  react like this.  With this condition it can cause Rheumatoid Arthritis, in her case it's JRA (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis). SLE can also cause her kidneys to fail.  We continue  our hospital visits on a regular basis to monitor the cancer markers, insure she is stable and keep her body functioning properly.  Thoughout this hardship Milan has demonstrated an outstanding personal strength,  a sense of humor and a willingness to remain hopeful.  She is a true fighter. Steroids, plaquenil and methotrexate are a few of the many medications that are used to help reduce the inflammation and help control this condition . The pharmaceutical bills,  lab tests, and hospital visits all add up. We are grateful for anything you are able to give to Milan's medical treatment. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
