Mila Acevedo's Memorial Fund

Mila Acevedo was a rare and intelligent unicorn. She was smart, loving, funny, genuine, incredibly thoughtful, and had the kind of character that made people stop and think they don't make them like that anymore. Mila always did her best to help others, whether it be by setting up a tutoring program for dyslexic youth in Santa Cruz, or simply lending a shoulder to cry on, no matter if you were a mere acquaintance or a dear friend. Mila had a profound ability of being able to see the good in every person she met. She could find the tiniest flicker in the blackest soul. She was the kindest person and always willing to give her precious time and energy to those in need of it, even if it meant putting herself last.

Mila had an incredibly strong, adventurous, and fun loving spirit. Her hobbies included tinkering on engineering projects, especially building RC cars, playing with her puppies, and really doing anything to keep her brain active as she liked to say. She loved to ride motorcycles and had been riding since the tender age of 7yrs old, eventually becoming a champion Superbike rider for Ducatti and Formula 3 driver. She loved the freeing feeling of handling a bike on the open road and enjoying the world around her. Mila had an insatiable love for learning and was forever seeking out knowledge about everything around her. Following her belief in sharing knowledge, Mila hoped to one day open a riding/ mechanic school geared towards female riders. As beautiful inside as she was out, this sweet and brave woman survived years of childhood abuse and came out the other end still able to find reasons to smile. And with a determination to enrich the lives of everyone around her.

At 33 yrs old, Mila had a full life that ended on a rainbow high of absolute acceptance and love. She was a fighter and someone that cultivated reverence, love, and friendship wherever she went. She leaves behind an absence that cannot be filled and will be missed and remembered for the rest of our lives.

Unfortunately, the sudden loss of our dear friend and partner led to us scrambling to cover the cost of a funeral, cremation, and care of the two beloved puppies she left behind. Vicious and Tyson miss their mom, but we are taking care of them as best as we can, knowing we can't match up to the world's best puppy mom!

The funds raised here will help us to recoup the costs mentioned above. We are petitioning the city to install a warning sign on the corner where she crashed as we don't want any other family to have to go through this heartache. While we were thankfully able to scrape together enough to pay for Mila's funeral and cremation, it was a big and unexpected financial hit. Her passing has left Mila's family devastated and struggling to function without her. We are thankful for every dollar as we work to get back on our feet and we know Mila would be eternally grateful too.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

Kelly and Drew (and Vicious and Tyson, too)
