Mike's seizure clavicle break

Donation protected
HI, My name is Mike Hanna. I have been an avid mountain biker and bicycle mechanic since 2003. In March of 2010 I had a crash while riding in  Monterey, CA  that left me with a broken collar bone and knocked me unconcious. After a couple months the collar bone healed up and I went back to life as usual, riding and working on mountain bikes,

One morning in November 2011 I was sitting on the couch waiting for coffee to brew, next thing I know I am waking up in an ambulance halfway into town. I had experienced my first grand mal seizure, what would become the first of many. I have consulted with many doctors and nuerologists who all agree that the seizures are being caused by a traumatic brain injury sustained in my crash in 2010, and that there is no treatment other than anti-convulsant drugs, which so far have proven to have limited effectiveness as I continue to have seizures. The anti-convulsants limit the seizures from a couple a day to a couple a year, with no way to predict when one will occurr.  All of this has led to a mounting pile of medical bills and emergency room visits.

On November 16th of this year I woke up in the hospital to find that I had a seizure at work and had fallen hit my head and broken my other collar bone in four places requiring surgery to repair it on top of the new emergency room bill.  I work at a small bike shop in Prescott, AZ, and have been a bike mechanic for the last 14 years. Mountain biking has been more than a hobby to me, it has been my lifestyle.  A career as a bike mechanic is one chosen out of passion for the sport, not the pay and benefits, which are plenty to live off but not enough to afford health insurance. My wife is a 7th grade social studies teacher, also a career choice of passion, and her insurance does not cover me.

While all this has been going on I have been trying to live my life as normal, continuing to ride, enjoying my seven mile ride into town on national forest trails to get to work everyday. I am faced with having to make  some serious lifestyle changes, as well as not being able to drive. I have tried to get insurance, disability, you name it and I make just enough to not be able to afford any packages that make sense.  The medications keep the frequency of my seizures just outside often enough to  qualify for disability. I am caught in the middle with no end in sight and a formidable stack of bills piling up on top of the $250 a month my meds cost.

The money I hope to make with this campaign will greatly help me pay for my surgery, get my emergency room tab paid up and find some kind of insurance that doesn't cost $900 a month and actually pays for any of medical needs. It will also help with the coming lifestyle changes that stem from the brain injury-not being able to ride or drive. Anything you can give will be so greatly appreciated!
