Mike Hyska’s Kidney Transplant Journey

Donation protected
11/29/19: Update: Mike is back in Jim Thorpe and recovering! When he was discharged from Temple Hospital he spent some time at the Gift of Life House in Philadelphia. He is now working with PT and a nurse at home and is going to the doctor a few days a week in Philadelphia and Bethlehem. He is getting infusions of IV anti rejection medications, steroids and his doctors are monitoring his kidney function closely. He is using the money raised here on his stay at the Gift of Life house, medications, gas and parking. We've shared with him the generous donors on this site and the loving words shared and he is overwhelmed with appreciation. We can't thank you enough! Please keep the prayers coming!

Mike was just informed by Temple Hospital that he will be a candidate for a Kidney transplant! We are over the moon excited about the life-changing and life-saving opportunity this is for Mike.

For those of you who may not know, my Uncle Mike was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure 11 years ago. He has been getting Dialysis 3 times per week for nearly 10 years and has suffered countless complications and hospitalizations since his diagnosis. He has lost over 100lbs to qualify for a transplant.

For those of you who do know my Uncle Mike you know, he is the social butterfly of Carbon County. Everyone is his "Budddy". He has been involved in the Lehighton Legion Legionnaires, The Germantown Grove Club, and the Big Brother program among other local groups and charities.

What will a new Kidney mean for Mike? It would mean more time with his family and friends,  quality time with his precious grandchild, the ability to return to his favorite places, hunting, fishing and working on fixing up his home.

Just as Mike would stop and help us at a moments notice it's time for us to help him in this time of need. The expense of a Kidney transplant is extraordinary and much of it is not covered by health insurance. He will require expensive anti-rejection medications, weekly doctors visits, other medical bills, and travel. We hope that in raising money to help Mike during this time he would be able to stress less on bills and focus on his recovery and healing.

We ask that if you are compelled and if you are able please give what is right in your heart - every cent counts. Also, consider sharing this link whether or not you are able to donate. We thank you all for supporting our family through this challenging time. And keep the prayers coming for Mike.
