Meet Michael! Michael graduated from Marshfield High School last year with our son Charlie and he saw all his friends go off to college and he could not. Michael played football, wrestled, and did track. If you met Michael you would quickly see a kind and fun-loving young man who loves to be around people, especially kids! Michael wants to go to college.
After spending the last year essentially homeless (going from couch to couch) and a history of being in the foster care system since he was 9 years old, Michael came to live with us this summer. Michael has never known his father and has not lived with his mother for the past 11 years. Despite being uprooted numerous times throughout his childhood and constant changes to his living situation Michael remained focused on his goal go to college. He was recently accepted to Curry College and plans to major in Criminal Justice. He was awarded a very generous financial aid package, but there is a financial gap that he can't fill on his own. He was recently denied a private loan because he doesn't have a credit history or any family who are willing/able to cosign on a loan. Michael is a great kid who has the skills to succeed, but his circumstances have created nearly insurmountable obstacles. And yet he finds himself right at the door of his future with one obstacle to clear. AND HE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
His spot at Curry College is being held and they have been fantastic and supportive. Michael is scheduled to start classes on Monday August 26th. We have exhausted all options and resources to help Michael clear this last obstacle and get the opportunity he deserves, and now our reality is that we have less than two weeks to get this done. So we are humbly turning to you, asking for your support. No amount is too modest or too great.
