Help Mikael Beat Cancer
Mikael is a bright, funny, creative, sensitive young man who was close to completing a college degree in computer animation before his whole life changed.
February 17, 2015. Mikael’s mom Magi planned to drive him to a doctor’s appointment to check out some flu-like symptoms that just wouldn’t go away. Instead she got an early morning call saying that his right leg was ‘paralyzed’ and he couldn’t walk. They rushed to the local emergency room where doctors declared Mikael ‘lucky to be alive.’ He was in fact suffering from acute T-cell leukemia. He was immediately taken to the ICU to spend the next 10 days fighting for his life. With a white blood cell count 100 times normal, Mik’s brain had started to bleed, causing his right arm to become paralyzed along with his leg. The hemorrhage was expanding, the prognosis grim.
Somehow, through the grace of God and the prayers of many, Mikael managed to come back to us. He got started right away with a long-term chemotherapy treatment. After about a month in the hospital regaining medical stability, he was then moved into a rehabilitation hospital to work on his physical mobility. Finally, after 3 months, Mikael was allowed to continue his recovery from home with regular visits to the hospital and rehab center. The doctors say that with a supportive environment and unrelenting treatment, at his young age, Mikael has an excellent chance of a full recovery. But it will be a long road (3+ years), and so much is needed to help him achieve his goals.
Calling all angels. Any and all help, particularly financially, would be a huge saving grace at this time. This first year is currently most crucial as we, the family, are trying to get our footing in a new routine, with so many critical responsibilities. On top of managing the medical side, there are basic living costs and round-the-clock care that is required. If you are able to donate, please give whatever is comfortable for you. You could be an ‘angel’ and give a monthly donation, or you could give whenever it’s feasible for you, anytime. The contributions we have gratefully been receiving not only help us make it through another day, but they empower Mikael to know that others are rooting for him. Every little bit makes such a difference.
Thank you for lending your love and support to this worthy young man. May your generosity and compassion come back to you in ways that light your heart’s desire.
With deep appreciation,
Magi, Bent, and all the family and friends of Mikael Sten Myggen.
Today is August 3rd, and we are celebrating Mikael’s 26th birthday. Feels like such a significant occasion, marking his life, and just how far he’s come since he landed in ICU with a brain hemorrhage and Leukemia diagnosis at 23 years old. Over the past 2 years, we’ve shared with you some of the challenges, as well as the love and encouragement our family has felt moving through this, thanks to all of you who have helped Mikael make it this far.
It’s always so hard to put into words just how grateful we are, how indebted we feel (for every dollar, prayer, offering of support) and yet we continue to search for ways to let you know how deeply thankful we are for your helping hand along this very LONG journey.
It feels like a sign that things are looking up, because on the brink of his 26th birthday, Mikael felt inspired (and energized) to put this video together to share his thanks more directly with you. It gives you a taste of his witty personality, and that feels like a sign that things are headed in a good direction.
Of course there is still a year to go, and we are still striving to reach our original fundraising goal (we have just about 25% to go!) but we also wanted you to get a feel for the progress that your support has been making. This past year Mikael was able to slowly reintegrate back into college, and so who knows what this next/last year of treatment will bring as he keeps pushing, and working hard to keep his chin up and press on, trying to stay positive, creative, and strong every day.
To all our GoFundMe supporters: Thank You for giving us today to celebrate the LIFE of Mikael Myggen. He's getting there thanks to YOU!
Happy birthday Mikael. We love you.

I completely understand. Am a sister with another cancer. If I can come up with some funds I will send them your way. Being a single mom of three animators money is tight. I have also been through many similar challenges. A note to you... As difficult as it may seem, and as you know it is, the human body has an incredible capacity for healing. I am so glad you are not fighting but living. Most of the negative things doctors told me would happen didn't . For example, not ever walking without a cane again. Also, treatments are exponentially changing everyday so things never stay the same. I'm glad you keep up with the new options. Your story is your own. I will add you to my morning healing meditation list. You are one of my heros. Keep it up young man it matters. All our love.
Is Mikael a big Nintndo or Mega Man fan? Has he been able to play?
Noreen contributed $50 and said: It is such a long road to recovery. My heartfelt love goes out to Mikael and all of his support system as he makes the journey back to health and vitality. Love, Trish Palmer contributed $100.00 for Mikael's healing, and Frank Palmer (no relation to Trish), bass player also kicked in $100.00. Thank you so much. Bent
