Midwifery placement in Uganda

As some of you may know I'm in my second year studying Midwifery at UEA.  I have found my passion in supporting women and their families throughout such a special time. I have the opportunity within my placement at University to be placed in another healthcare setting for 2 weeks. I wanted to experience normal and complex maternity care in another country and understand more cultural attitudes towards childbearing.

I spent time researching different charities as I wasn't keen to go with big organisations and came across Knowledge For Change -  http://knowledge4change.org/ .  Knowledge 4 Change is a charity hosted by the University of Salford in Manchester who aim to improve healthcare in lower-income areas. They have connections in Uganda and are beginning to support hospitals in India. They support healthcare professionals and students to work in these areas to improve their own skills and experience all the while sharing their knowledge and  improving  safe practice. All profit from the charity is invested into these areas for equipment, more facilities, specialists and much more.

I will be based in Fort Portal in Uganda visiting a variety of healthcare settings from small birth units and community centres, to main hospitals on labour ward, antenatal and postnatal wards, neonatal units and much more.

I am excited to support this charity, cause and improve my own knowledge along the way.

Watch out for my fundraising ideas!

£1,437 consists of:
