SUPPORT OHIO HOUSE RABBIT RESCUE!

This year’s Midwest BunFest, presented by Ohio House Rabbit Rescue, which draws 1,100+ rabbit lovers from around the country, was scheduled for Saturday, October 27, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio.  Unfortunately, Midwest BunFest 2018 had to be cancelled unexpectedly, just 2 ½ weeks before the event.

At this time, we are asking our supporters, attendees and pet rabbit lovers to consider making a donation to help Ohio House Rabbit Rescue recover at least some of the costs incurred and revenue lost in cancelling the  Midwest BunFest 2018 event.

Please join us for Virtual Midwest BunFest  on Facebook from October 27 - November 10, 2018 or link to it from our Midwest BunFest 2018  website.

Why was the event cancelled?

In late September, rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2 (RHD2) was detected in a domestic rabbit in Medina County, Ohio, about 150 miles north of Columbus. This is the first confirmed case of RHD2 in the United States. RHD2 is very contagious and highly fatal for rabbits. There are many unknowns about the virus, including exact details about the way it is transmitted and how long it remains in the environment.

Ohio House Rabbit Rescue  is committed to the safety of all rabbits. This includes the approximately 250+ rabbits who attend the event, as well as those in homes and rescues around the country.

To eliminate the risk of spreading this disease, the decision was made to cancel the largest fundraising effort of the year for Ohio House Rabbit Rescue, to protect the rabbits and the rabbit community from the spread of the RHD2 virus.

How does the cancellation effect continuing rescue work?

This cancellation hits us particularly hard.
Planning and preparation for the event, by an all-volunteer team, spans the entire year prior. The cancellation of Midwest BunFest 2018 , this close to our event date, means that much of the cost associated with putting on an event of this magnitude has already been incurred. Without the event, we have little recourse for recovering the money already spent.

Without BunFest, it will be harder for  Ohio House Rabbit Rescue  to make ends meet. A significant portion of the yearly operating budget for the Ohio House Rabbit Adoption Center comes from funds generated by Midwest BunFest.

Every little bit helps us continue our rescue efforts and maintain the OHRR Rabbit Adoption Center , as well as offer Midwest BunFest for years to come. If you were planning to attend this year’s event, perhaps you would consider donating the $6.00 you planned to spend on event admission. No act of generosity will go unappreciated.

What do we use donated funds for?

All of our rescue rabbits receive a wellness check and are spayed/neutered.
OHRR then works with potential adopters to find the rescue rabbits their forever homes. The Center facility provides care for 30-40 rabbits at a time.

In 2017, OHRR cared for and found homes for over 100 abandoned and neglected pet rabbits in Central Ohio. Additionally, OHRR supported many local, regional and national rescue events by partnering with other animal welfare organizations throughout the United States.

We ask that you please consider giving generously to help us continue our work!
