Midas' Chemo Bills

$16,098 of $18,000 goal

Midas saved my life when I got back from Afghanistan and today on the anniversary of when we brought him home we received the diagnosis of Lymphoma. We have more tests and more appointments to do and can use your help. Midas has given me hope for the future, he was there when I needed him most as my service dog and he's helped me help other veterans. He is one of the main reasons why I'm here, still alive and fighting for other veterans. The medical bills for the last two days has come to a little more than $1100. We have an appointment with an oncologist tomorrow where they will perform at least one test to determine which type of Lymphoma Midas has. This test will cost around $300 and does not include the consult cost or anything else. We haven't heard what other tests or procedures will be needed at this time. We currently are unsure how much the total cost will be for his treatment, but we will update the page as soon as we learn more.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for us! We feel so blessed by all those who have shared about Midas, donated, and sent prayers for him. So far he has been responding well to chemo. His oncologist said he's exactly where she wants him to be. We still have a long journey ahead of us as he will need chemo every week for at least 6 months. We've upped our goal now that we know approximately how much his medical care will cost each month. For 6 months of weekly chemo we are looking at about $15,000 in treatment costs. We cannot begin to thank everyone for helping us. Midas means so much not only to our family but to many others. We are doing everything we can to help him fight Lymphoma. The week before last we were invited to Disneyland for their holiday lighting ceremony. We all had a great time and it gave us a chance to enjoy time together as a family instead of focusing on cancer. We have no words to fully explain our gratitude.

We are humbled by the kindness, love, and generosity we have received over the last week. We still can't believe that Midas was diagnosed with Lymphoma only a week ago. Midas has been doing well on chemo so far. He has another chemo treatment tomorrow. We have also changed his diet to help combat this cancer. He is receiving special cancer fighting supplements to help support his immune system as well. Thank you for all the continued support and prayers. We are determined to fight this! We were also contacted by ABC 10 News San Diego when they heard about Midas. We've included the news story link below.

We want to keep everyone updated as we go through this journey with Midas. We met with an oncologist today. She is very knowledgable and we feel very confident in her care. She told us that lymphoma is an aggressive cancer and we are lucky we noticed minor changes in Midas so early on. They said without treatment he would only have 4-6 weeks left on his life. We started chemotherapy immediately today as that is his best bet. They have currently given him 8-12 months to live. We are heartbroken over the shortened lifespan but plan to do everything we can for him. We are also looking into clinical trials and alternative approaches to help boost Midas' immune system. We are raising our fundraising goal to reflect the estimated cost of his care. We will continue to give updates along the way. Midas is a fighter and we'll be fighting along with him. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. Our number one priority is Midas' quality of life and that will remain our top priority.

My beloved cat, Mignon, had lymphoma. The oncologist told me he'd die in 1 month if untreated, but he'd live a year if I did chemo. The minute I heard that, I opted for chemo. I got that extra year. After awhile, Mignon needed to be hydrated often. I tried to give him subQ, but my little boy knew I didn't know what I was doing. He gave me a no confidence vote. So I'd take him in and they'd hydrate him for me. (This hospital was open 24/7.) He was only 9 lbs to begin with, and eventually he lost half his body weight. I'd tempt him with chicken to kick up his appetite, plus they gave me an appetite stimulant for him, which helped. But, Mignon purred all the time cuz I was there to love him. We spent lots of time together. And Mignon didn't experience pain until his last day on earth.
