Hi!  My name is Michele, and four years ago I began creating a film project called Microcosm.  The purpose of the film is to show the ocean in a way audiences have never seen it before (through a microscope)!

Microscopic life is the oldest on Earth, and they are running the show more than most of us can appreciate.  They are the base of the oceanic food web and harbingers of climate change.

In summer of 2016 we officially began production and spent six weeks filming in the Arctic.  In March of 2017 we we filmed in the remote Socorro Islands, and now, we have our sights set to film in Florida (summer 2017) and Hawaii (January 2018).
To learn more about our project please visit our website:

Money raised through this campaign will be used to transport the crew and equipment, cover accommodations, purchase essential gear, and cover a modest salary for the crew.

We are beyond thankful for all the support (financial & emotional) over the past several years that has carried us to this place.  It is important to us that our contributors and followers know that we consider every one of you a direct part of this project.

And to those of you who are joining our journey now, a heartfelt thanks, and welcome to the Microcosm community!

It's time for us to think about what comes next for Microcosm! We hope to take our story pole to pole in the pursuit of plankton, so the next logical step is to follow the whales, manta rays, and whale sharks. Our team is busy setting up plans for our next shoots and we need your help! Currently we are planning a shoot for March in the Socorro Islands where we will encounter and dive with the great whales. All donations help us keep production moving forward and on schedule, and every dollar helps! Our organization has really grown, and we look forward to continued growth, production, and further reach in 2017!

This is the moment you've been waiting for! After several weeks of editing, we are finally ready to reveal a little showcase of what our film is all about, and introduce you to our new YouTube channel. Our "teaser" is just a taste of things to come as we continue to travel and document the hidden universe in the ocean. This piece was made possible by our Director of Cinematography Annie Crawley, Cinematographer Mathew Broughton, original music score by David Winer, voice artistry of Cheryl Graeff, our editors at Beast (Matthew Glover, Joel Signer, and Tyler Roth) and with special thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, United States Coast Guard, Oceaneering and our friends at the University of Alaska. In the coming weeks there will be more to see on our YouTube channel including interviews with members of our team, and behind the scenes fun from the Arctic. Please check us out and subscribe to the channel so you can join the journey!

Well folks, ONE WEEK from tomorrow Team Microcosm departs for Alaska! This would never have happened without every dollar YOU put behind us! Because of you, we were able to buy plane tickets, and specialized equipment that will give us views to take your breath away (yep we secured an aerial drone among other things)! We also received generous grant support from Columbia College, assistance with some of our critical equipment needs from Canon USA and Zacuto, further equipment support from Hawaiian Rafting Adventures, and last (but FAR from least) a generous gift of hard drives from Kurtis Productions and the offer of a voice...YEP none other than Bill Kurtis himself! This happened because YOU wanted it to, and we can't thank you enough! We are excited to bring you stories and "firsts" from the field!

EXCITING NEWS! Canon U.S.A. has decided to support our work in the Arctic with a VERY generous equipment loan that includes top of the line 4k camera bodies and a wide range of lenses so we can capture the wonders of the Arctic in vivid high definition! But hold on, we're not done yet... Our friends at Columbia College have graciously agreed to help us out with lighting, sound and additional equipment we need to make it all come to life! With all of these new developments we are very close indeed to making it all work! The biggest challenge that remains is acquiring a number of hard drives with enough storage capacity for the demand of 4k, but we will not give up! Thank you all for helping us come this far!
