One of my best friends mom, Michele Oliver, has been in a horrific car accident in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. A truck doing approximately 80km/hr went into her lane and hit her Honda Civic head on. On July 20, 2018 she was air lifted to the trauma center in Halifax for emergency care. Michele is badly injured and has 3 daughters who are all in their 20's that have been at her side every day. They are a very close family and the hospital is 5 hours from Michele's home.

We want to help this family and would appreciate your support. She has a fractured neck, back, ribs, wrist, femur, knee and lower leg. Her lung was punctured and she has a concussion with bleeding on the brain. She is required to wear a neck collar for 6 weeks and has a heavy cast on one leg and one arm.

Michele is expected to be in hospital at least 3 months as she is unable to put any weight on her leg until it has had that long to heal. At that point she will begin the very long process of rehabilitation. There will be appointments, transportation, physio, occupation therapy, medical tests, home care, prescriptions and a level of stress that is hard to fathom. Already the family is dealing with travel costs, daily parking fees of $15/day, meals out and more. The hospital has requested money for a leg brace yet Michele is not well enough to be involved in submitting receipts to medical insurance.

The scary part is that Michele's full time income will end in 3 weeks and her daughter need to find a way to open an EI sick leave claim and pay her bills with a greatly reduced income.

When Michele woke up from 7 hours of surgery, she asked if her daughter's had a chance to eat. When asked if she wanted to pass along a message to her parents, she said to tell them she is a little better than yesterday. She doesn't complain. Not one bit.

We want Michele to recover so she can once again spend time doing her favorite thing.... Playing with her 3 beautiful granddaughters who are all under the age of 10.
