Fireman's Biggest Battle Yet

Donation protected
Michael Dolan, a 27 year old volunteer fireman from the Baldwin Fire Department has spent the last 5 years saving lives but now needs a little help saving his own.
Mike was admitted to the hospital after a short ER visit on 8/21/17. He had spent several weeks coughing prior to his hospital visit and spoke with several doctors who assured him he had pneumonia. After an initial CT scan, on 8/21/17, a 93mm by 33mm mass was discovered to be crushing one of his lungs and pressing on his heart and airway. This was causing his cough and also causing his heart to race. There were also smaller masses found in his other lung, spine, adrenal glands and liver. After three procedures and two biopsies he has been diagnosed with Stage 4, Adenocarcinoma, Lung cancer. It is a form of lung cancer that non-smokers are affected by. It is caused by a fast mutating gene, and he has probably been sick for several months with very few symptoms. Although this particular type of cancer is aggressive, his doctors have told him that they can begin treatment immediately and get him on to a road to getting better very soon.

Spending time with Mike in the hospital has been so endearing. He treats every single staff member with the utmost respect and hates asking anyone for anything. He has been even more humbled by the amount of support he has been shown during his stay. He cannot keep up with the text messages and visitors he has received. He is, however, worried about how the bills are adding up as are his parents, who have both taken time off to care for him. The stress this is causing their entire family is heart-breaking. As he begins chemotherapy and radiation, we want money to be the very last thing on his mind. His doctors have assured him that he can live a long fulfilling life if he is able to purely focus on his recovery- and that means taking a while off from work to get better. His parents will be transporting him back and forth for his chemotherapy and radiation treatments as deemed necessary.
Michael isn't the type to ask for any help at all from anyone- so I am doing it for him. After meeting so many members of the BFD, and so many of his friends in the last few weeks, and months, I know that we can all pull together and help Mike- who we all know would be first in line to help any and all of us. Whether helping you move, saving you from a fire, or feeding the stray animals of Baldwin, Mike has always been first in line to help his friends in need. Let's help ease the stress of this terrible disease for Michael Dolan. Please donate if you can and share this if you cannot. We cannot thank you enough- from the bottom of our hearts for doing so.
