Michael B. Laster Legacy Scholarship Fund
Michael B. Laster was a pillar of the Asheville / Weaverville community and will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and generous person who always saw the good in others. He passed away at age of 72 due to complications from surgery.
Michael was a Hall of Fame athlete at North Buncombe High School. Mike's legendary on-the-field successes did not define him or his legacy -- it was what he did off the field. Mike was "one of a kind" -- he never met a stranger, greeted everyone with a smile and always had the perfect joke to make you laugh. He had a huge selfless heart...the boy that grew up "not having" understood the importance of giving to others that "did not have". Over the years, Mike made a tremendous impact and we are blessed to have been part of it. Mike was a lot of things to a lot of people; coach, mentor, friend, colleague or insurance man...he made a difference!
To best honor Michael and his commitment to our community, the family is establishing the Michael B. Laster Legacy Scholarship Fund.
All proceeds will go directly to a deserving student in the North Buncombe community that exemplifies the qualities of Michael Laster:
- Leader: the ability to inspire others to higher levels
- Integrity: person of highest character
- Service: personal commitment above and beyond that which is normally expected to enrich life for another
- Excellence: consistent pursuit of greatness in all facets of life
