Mia-Hirschsprung's Disease

Donation protected

3 days after Mia was born she was transported to Hackensack University for not passing stool. There she stayed with Mom and Dad in the NICU for the next 2 weeks while she underwent several tests. The Dr's put in a pic-line and feeding tube and decided to do a rectal biopsy. Once the biopsy came back inconclusive, they decided to send our family home for a bit where Kyle and I would irrigate Mia with a cathedar to let out air and stool. We took Mia back for another biopsy and waited at home.

It was decided that Mia would undergo her first surgery at 5 weeks. This would be to treat Hirschsprung's disease a rare disease of the colon, which they would confirm by a third operational biopsy before surgery. After a 6 hour surgery, they removed 18 inches of her intestine and pulled through the bad colon which would allow her to poop.

After surgery Mia stayed in the PICU and could not eat for 2 days to allow the stiches to heal, she ended up pooping not long after and within a few days came home.

Exactly one week later Kyle and I rushed her to the ER at Hackensack;she had gotten sick for not pooping after 36 hours. There we stayed with her the weekend and were sent home to irrigate again. Three days later we were taught how to dialate our 2 month old using metal medical rods to keep everything that was stitched up open.

6 weeks later Mia is still not pooping and is unable to pass gas, she struggles with being uncomfortable most of the day and night until irrigated. Kyle and I have decided to take her to see the only specialist in the world treating this rare disease located in Ohio. I have not been able to return to work since I had Mia because she needs the irrigations. We are asking for everyone's prayers always and any help that can be spared for her medical bills and temporary relocation as Kyle and I will be out of work and supporting her journey to health.

Thank you all,
Kyle & Samantha
