So who is Mia?
Mia has had enough! 2014 – Mia, 25 years old then and in the middle of her degree, received her diagnosis - Multiple Sclerosis. An illness where the immune system goes haywire and attacks as well as dismantles the insulating covers of the nerve cells. Nowadays, very good medications exist which help most MS patients live a relatively symptom-free life by inhibiting the progression of the illness.
Mia, however, is not so fortunate. No medication has shown the desired effects, and Today, after 6 years of illness, Mia is bound to a wheelchair and can only walk few steps. Her last chance to stop the horrible disease and maybe live a normal life again is a stem cell therapy with her own stem cells. The therapy is not currently performed in Germany, and the costs for treatment abroad are not covered by insurance. A renowned specialized clinic in Moscow under the direction of Dr. Fedorenko, who has been successfully performing this treatment for more than 10 years, could treat Mia in May - unfortunately, she lacks funding.
