The Macomb Schools are raising funds to pay for a new grand piano which will be utilized by thousands of students in the years to come. This piano will greatly enhance their future performance opportunities.
In 1976, the Rotary Club of Macomb, Illinois purchased a Grand Piano for Fellheimer Auditorium at Macomb High School. During its tenure, this piano has been a treasured instrument, accompanying several thousand Macomb students in choral concerts and other musical endeavors. In fact, as a true "community piano" groups such as Miss Macomb, Lincoln School, Edison School, Macomb Junior and Senior High School, St. Paul School, and various guest artists have utilized the instrument.
In recent years, the piano has been repaired for a warped soundboard as well as other issues that have occurred due to its age and heavy use. The piano is now in need of more extensive repairs, and after years of careful maintenance, we have concluded that the instrument should be retired. Because we value the gift given us all those years ago, we have been hesitant to replace this piano. However, recent repair estimates illustrate that the money would be better suited toward investing in a new instrument.
After working with a piano specialist at West Music, we were able to choose the perfect piano for our performance space. Over the summer, we purchased a 7’1” Boston Grand Piano, designed by the Steinway Company. We feel this instrument will serve thousands of students for decades to come.
We are just over $11,000 away from our goal of paying for the new piano, which is just a fraction of the discounted purchase price. We hope that you will consider generously donating to the Macomb Schools Fellheimer Piano Fund.
