We are the Sarpy County Nebraska Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) (A 5013C Charity) (Also referred to as The St Columbkille Ancient Order of Hibernians) . The Ancient Order of Hibernians is a Catholic Irish-American Fraternal Organization founded in New York City on May 4, 1836. The Order can trace its roots back to a parent organization of the same name that has existed in Ireland for more than 300 years. We are a divsion of this order.
What is our purpose:
(1) To promote Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity.
(2) To foster and sustain loyalty to country and community.
(3) To aid and advance by all legitimate means the aspirations and endeavors of the Irish people for complete and absolute independence, promoting peace and unity for all Ireland.
(4) To foster the ideas and perpetuate the history and traditions of the Irish people.
(5) To promote Irish Culture.
(6) To encourage civic participation.
(7) To encourage an equitable U.S. immigration law for Ireland and to cooperate with groups for a fair American Immigration Policy.
(8) To accept and support, without prejudice, the concept of free expression of religious practice for the people of the world.
(9) To protect and defend all life.
The AOH has consistently promoted and tried to preserve our ancient language, Gaelic-Irish
What Charities do we support?
Locally we support and use funds for the Stephens Center here in Omaha Nebraska in their efforts to overcome homelessness, addiction and poverty, we provide food and help serve meals to help in their aide to the homeless. We also support the Bellevue NE food Pantry and the Gretna Neighbors Food pantry in their efforts by providing food, funds and support to help fight hunger.
Locally we also support and provide funds for the Bellevue Nebraska Food bank and The Gretna Nebraska Neighbors Food Pantry in their efforts to reduce hunger in their communities.
We also support National AOH charities including:
St. Patrick Centre: Located in Co. Down Ireland. Center for tourism and reconciliation dedicated to all the people of Ireland. Center has become a key player in the Northern Ireland Peace Process trough reconciliation work helping over 5,000 children a year and facilitating an Irish Language program with the schools
Conway Mill Trust: Located in Pittsburgh, PA, Conway Mill is an Irish-American cross-community organization working for economic, community, social and cultural development in Northern Ireland.
Holy Cross Ardoyne Trust in North Belfast: This group works for the creation of a cross community Family Centre on Crumlin Road. Support enables the group to continue the essential cross-community work and concentrate their efforts on reconciliation and the improvement of community relations within North Belfast through the Family Centre Development project.
Pat Finucane Centre in Derry (www.patfinucanecentre.org): The group is dedicated to research and documenting individual cases of conflict related to loss of life following a specific request from a relative, and finding innovative alternatives for families seeking redress. Their mission is to defend Human Rights and support Social Change.
Omagh Northern Ireland Thunder Basketball Club (http://www.omaghthunder.com): Their goal is to bring children from all sides of the Northern Ireland community and teach them to work together, using basketball as a tool.
