Rain Dance for 2016 Folk Festival

The Montana Folk Festival is a free-of-admission, three day celebration of traditional music, dance and art that took place July 8, 9, and 10 -- the ninth year for this regional event.
Since 2008, the festival has grown to become a signature event and an important economic engine that draws visitors to Butte and Montana from far and wide. From the beginning it has been a major cultural event.
In 2016 the festival presented six stages showcasing rare music and dance performances and moderated talk/demonstration sessions, a dance pavilion, a Family Area, a Montana Folklife Area, crafts demonstrations and exhibits, regional and ethnic foods, a festival folk arts market and the First Peoples Market that featured the artworks of Montana's Native American artists.
The festival was on track to have record attendance on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, a deluge drenched sound equipment and forced the closure of two of the main stages for safety reasons. It was the right thing to do. but the move resulted in the loss of nearly $50,000 in revenues that are used to pay the bills that arrive after the festival.
The tax-deductible funds raised in this effort will be used to pay outstanding bills for tents, sound and staging, transportation, and other essential services and to place the event on solid footing for 2017, the 10th year of its run.
Without your help, this could mean the end of the festival and all of its many cultural and economic impacts that it has brought to Butte, Montana and the region.
