Metal Mom Soars Again!


Meet my mom, Jeanne, otherwise known as Metal Mom. I put her up to wearing heavy metal t-shirts and posing while doing "mom" things around town and she's a great sport about the whole thing.


Last year, thanks to your generous donations, I was able to get Metal Mom her own float in my hometown’s Syttende Mai parade, including a giant Macy's-style balloon in the likeness of my mother. The whole community (except for one religious guy in Milwaukee who thought we were satanists) rallied behind the project and it far exceeded anything I could've hoped for. We made a video of the whole crazy project here .


This year’s Norwegian Constitution Day parade in Stoughton, Wisconsin is right around the corner, on May 19th, and the committee has enthusiastically invited Metal Mom back, but I need your help to make this year’s float bigger and better!

How do you top a black viking ship with a smoke spewing dragon and my mom sitting on a throne made of knitting needles? Add fire. Not actual fire but theatrical flames and painted flames on the boat. My talented team of local artists is already working to make this year's float extra fiery!


And what about the 30-foot Metal Mom balloon that soared above the crowds last year? We want her back, soaring even higher! But helium costs have gone up since last year and that’s the primary reason I’m raising funds again—to make this majestic balloon rise in 2019!


What’s new this year? Well, there’s a big “Welcome to Stoughton” sign as you drive into town, and thousands of people will see it as they come for the big Syttende Mai festival this month, but it’s pretty boring. I asked City Hall if I could add a “Birthplace of Metal Mom” sign below it and they said...no. So I’m working with the same company to make my own Welcome to Stoughton sign proudly proclaiming it the “Birthplace of Metal Mom.” I want this to be a roadside attraction and photo op for anyone coming through town. 


Of course, all of this costs money, and I know there are better causes out there, but if you can spare some funds to help Metal Mom reign again in 2019, there’s something in it for you.

By donating, you’ll get a front row seat. And if you can’t watch live on May 19th, I’ll give be cutting a highlight reel of the event and you’ll get early access before anyone else.
