Merrilee & Cameron Adoption

$35,000 goal

Campaign created 11 months ago
We have BIG news!

We are planning to adopt a child!

We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new life into our home. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $40,000 or more. This is why we have set a goal of [35,000] to help ease the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents.

We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he/she grows up.

Our story begins over 6 years ago when Cameron and I were married on August 26th, 2011. Our friendship for over 6 years had turned into the perfect love story. It has always been our most important goal to start a family. As a newly married couple we were beyond excited to have children and just a few short months after we were married we decided to try. As over a year went by without being able to have children we were disheartened. Then few months later we found out we were pregnant and were elated! We told our family quickly because we couldn't wait any longer! A month after we found out, hand in hand Cameron and I went to our first doctor appointment. Excited, scared, happy, and nervous all at once we waited to hear from the doctor. As we did our first ultra sound the nurse looked concerned. She quietly continued to check on a few more things and then turned slowly to tell us that she didn't find a heartbeat. As I looked at her hoping that I had heard her wrong she told me that it wasn't my fault and the doctor would be in to talk with us about the next steps. As this chapter in our book closed we were heartbroken. As time passed we continued to try medicine, treatments, and other doctors that could help us. We have not been able to get pregnant but we still hope that someday we will.

Then this last summer we had a quick and wonderful opportunity to adopt a baby boy. With the help of our family and friends we quickly gathered the items we would need and anxiously awaited the time we could bring him home. Then we received the news that our birth mom had decided to parent. Although we wished her the best it is hard to describe the painful emotions that followed. I quietly removed the baby items from around the house to storage and hoped that there would be another chance for us which leads to where we are now. It has been hard for us to continue to try again and again but we have found that our hearts continue to guide us to our future children. Although we have always known that adoption would be in our family journey even before we were married we didn't realize that it would take shape like this!  As we have followed this journey through the ups and downs our hearts are drawn to adoption again and we feel strongly that our child is waiting for us.

As we now ask you to be apart of our journey we hope that you know we wish we could make this possible on our own. We will continue to raise money through grants and other ways but we also recognize our need for the help of our friends and family to make this possible for us. We can't thank you enough for being apart of this journey with us
