A groundbreaking ceremony for the Peter Crump Baseball Complex was held in Montgomery on Monday, 2015.
"The $1.9 million estimated new facility project will be a consolidation of Peter Crump and Seth Johnson Baseball fields. The new baseball complex will support the Dixie Youth Southern League and create a safe, enjoyable, and entertaining environment for our youth.”
Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, Montgomery County Commissioner Elton Dean , John Dow, former City Councilman and Southern League Board of Directors were all in attendance at the groundbreaking.
Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange praised organizations around the city for making the project possible, saying, "It's really an opportunity for us collectively, the business community, the governmental community, to do something significant in this portion of Montgomery."
One of the main reasons for the new park's construction, right now parents with children who play on two teams can't watch them both play at the same location.
"If you are a parent and have two children who play baseball or Softball one is at one field (Seth Johnson) and one is at the other (Peter Crump) you never get a chance to see them both play at the same time this combines the fields of peter crump in one state of the art baseball complex."
Southern League has so many needs such as equipment, uniforms, batting cages, for both boys and girls. In additional, the girls league have grown to seven teams and it was pretty tough to practice on one field until recently the City Director added a practice field.
