The Mercer Veterinary Clinic for the Homeless is a free clinic that cares for the pets of the homeless population of Sacramento, CA. It has been running since 1992.

In 2013 the warehouse we ran our clinic out of was demolished. We raised funds to buy our mobile trailer that we are currently in. To abide by city building codes, the trailer is being made into permanent structure, which requires city permits and a lot of renovations. These costs have been well over our normal annual fundraising needs of around $20k.

The city had the right to shut us down at any moment. However, thanks to our generous donors the clinic will survive!

We treat hundreds of dogs and cats belonging to homeless individuals at our free monthly clinic. This includes providing vaccinations, flea and heartworm preventative, and care for sick animals. Every animal is spayed/neutered to help reduce the homeless pet population.

Without the clinic, these animals will go without essential medications and vaccinations. Their owners do not have the resources to bring them to regular clinics. Some of them will succumb to illness.

Please consider helping the Mercer clinic. These pets are often the only positive things in their owners' lives. They deserve proper care.

Note: If we do not reach our goal, the donated money WILL be used to assist the pets of the homeless.

Thanks to the generous support of our many donors, we have made some amazing progress, and been able to keep the clinic running! Additionally, the City of Sacramento has been incredible about supporting Mercer and has reduced our permitting fees substantially! At this time, we need to reach a reduced goal of $75,000 to keep the clinic running. I cannot thank you enough for your help and continued spreading of the word about our cause!

Me and my roomate found this boxer wandering around the local park days ago bruised up and crying , being dog lovers we decided to help and took him in . He was brought to the vet on March 17 and x-rays were done showing multple hind fractures it also showed that her bowels are up in her diaphragm. This is fatal without sugery. The intestines can either adhere to the heart, be strangled and die or an obstruction in his bowel also causing death. The surgery is to be scheduled in 3 days March 22 and we are looking for donations to help us get him the surgery he needs to survive. We are struggling students and don't have enough money to finance it , having already spent most of what we have on him . The surgery is going to be around $3000 but we will have exact numbers tomorrow. Every dollar counts. Please help us save this still young pup live. We haven't named him yet and are waiting on the surgery results to give him one .

why can't we get a local representative to start something to help these students and the animals. there is no where like this. I would be willing to write to someone to help but would need to know more about it to do this. Please lets not let this shut down.

Could we perhaps speak to a local government representative, who might be able to put us in touch with contractors wiling to volunteer their skills? Also, involving some church groups might be beneficial, as their members usually possess an eclectic array of skills, and I imagine this is a cause they'd be willing to support.
