Yoga For Mental Health

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Shannon.

I have never done anything like this before, and I'm not entirely sure how to start.

I am a mental health advocate. I have suffered with depression, anxiety, and most recently was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.

In the fall of 2016, I had decided that I no longer wanted to live under a rain cloud, and I made an attempt to end my life. Thankfully, my attempt was unsuccessfull, and my  journey brought me home to Ontario to live with my parents. I was hospitalized for a week because I was still suicidal.

At the hospital, I learned of a program that could help me learn coping skills specific to my illness. (If you would like to know more about the program, you can google Dialectical Behavioural Therapy).

I have now been attending that program five days a week for eleven weeks, and have made enormous improvements in my life. I cannot stress enough how this program has transformed me.

My journey also brought me to a yoga studio. Yoga has helped to ground me, calm me, and it helps me to focus on my quieting my mind. It has become a huge part of my life, and I have learned so much about myself.

I want to teach yoga. I want to give back to the community what yoga has given to me - strength, balance, contentment.  This is the first time in a long time that I have been able to see a future for myself.

This is where I have to ask for your help - I have been off work for the better part of the year, with my parents helping me to pay my bills, and live a minimalist lifestyle. This is a program that I want to attend, but cannot afford to take at this point in my life.

The Moksha Yoga Teacher Training is $4500 plus tax. It is 30 days intensive training, this July in Kelowna, BC, and then 11 months distance education. The funds would help me to pay for the program, as well as costs associated  (books, flights, accomodations, and food).

Your help would allow me to take the next step in my life. It would give me a chance to give back to others, what I have been given.

Any money not used for the training will be donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

You can also follow my story on my blog www.youreonlydreaming.blog

Thank you for taking the time to be here, and read my page, and if you decide to donate, thank you a thousand times over. You mean the world to me.

With love,
Shannon

*I would also like to add that if I am not able to reach my goal before the training date this July, I will continue the campaign until the next training date in Septemeber.
