Mental health placement- Bali 2019

In September, we will be boarding a plane to Bali, Indonesia, to undertake a 4 week voluntary mental health placement abroad with SLV Global – a UK based organisation that provides students and graduates with hands-on work experience abroad in the mental health sector.
This exciting and challenging placement will give us both the crucial skills needed to take the next steps in our careers and will also allow us the opportunity to help out a growing community in Bali. We will be gaining hands-on work experience volunteering abroad with the focus on making a positive impact in the local community to the benefit of service users and their families.
In Bali, we will be working with individuals with special education needs and mental health issues, teaching English in the community to children aged 3-12 and young adults aged 17-25, whilst also helping to run therapeutic groups and promoting positive mental health. We will be working with a team of volunteers and taking responsibility for using my skills to work in under-resourced centres. We will be working 5 days a week, living like a local, travelling on local transport and staying with a Balinese family.
We are both really looking forward to working in completely new culture, in a challenging environment and SLV’s focus on ethical and sustainable projects is something that really stood out. The fact that this is a work-experience placement and not a holiday is a really important aspect of why we both chose to volunteer with them.
Each of our placements costs £2200, including flights, and we are both working hard whilst also organising a summer fundraising event to raise funds as well!
