One afternoon at work everything was moving along as normal: emails, meetings, distractions, and more. Then another email landed in my InBox and everything slowed down to a halt.

A coworker of mine, Andrew Liebel, had found out three weeks prior he has ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease.) For those of you not familiar with ALS, the prognosis is never an easy one to hear. Most patients have a two to four year window with 10% surviving longer than 10 years. The age where people normally begin seeing diagnoses of ALS is 60 years old for brand new cases and 50 years old for those where it is inherited.

Andrew is younger than 30 years old. Together with his finacee, they have two children, ages 6 and 7.

It struck a deep chord in me because I lost my own father at 5 years old and I have no memories of him at all. That’s not something I want to see repeated for anyone.

In his email he mentioned wanting to take a trip out to Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando while he can still move around without too much trouble and enjoy the magic with his family. His wish is now my goal.

To be fully transparent, there is another fundraising effort being run on another site, but it is a general request for funds to help with his medical bills and upcoming care. This effort here is strictly for the trip and to make sure his family doesn’t touch those medical funds (because they will need those later on.)

The funds raised here will go to covering the airfare (two adults, two children), hotel stay, food, admission to Disney for four days, and admission to Universal for two days. Anything and everything donated here is appreciated.

We are planning this trip for the beginning of April, so if you can help, please do so as soon as you can. Booking windows for this are coming up fast.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I can assure you Andrew and his family do as well.

At just shy of $5K, I am closing down this GoFundMe effort. Not out of any lack of pride from how much everyone contributed, but there are other fundraising efforts taking off and Andrew and his family are already back from Disney World.

What you did, what your friends did, what the Emergency Reporting family did, gave them an amazing trip and amazing memories. I've never launched something like this before and I can't thank everyone enough for how well it went.

Thank you very, very much!

Greetings everyone! Today we got in an incredibly generous donation that rolled the ball that much further down the track. The trip this fundraiser is helping cover was officially booked in total over the weekend and Andrew came by this afternoon to say a heartfelt thanks for the efforts and I extend those sentiments onto you, the incredible donors to this GoFundMe campaign.

Even though the trip is booked, the money to cover that trip are still a good chunk away from being paid back to the original funders. Plus, anything beyond that amount that comes in will be sent directly to Andrew and his family to help cover upcoming medical expenses and the loss of full-time wages.

As always, my sincerest thanks for everyone who donated, shared, or just read the story. Each of those matter in their own way.

It's so amazing to see the donations still coming in and this morning was even more exciting because we are now $10 AWAY FROM $3,000! That amount covers an entire portion of the package, which is coming ever closer.

My hopes for this campaign were conservative just to be safe, but the response from people all over the country, all over the internet, and especially all over our company (Emergency Reporting) is nothing short of amazing.

Let's keep the momentum going and if you can, please share the campaign on whatever social media you have. Thanks to you all!

This has been a most amazing day! $1,000 in one day! Thanks to everyone who is helping us take this fundraiser all the way to the top (and maybe even beyond!) While there is a dollar amount attached to this page, there isn't any amount possible to match what this will do. Thank you very, very much.
