Memorial for Dr Peter Metcalfe

Donation protected
Peter passed away on Sunday 22nd April. He was climbing with his girlfriend, Mary Saunders, on Raven Crag Buttress in Langdale. They had just finished ‘Original Route’ and were making their way off the crag via the descent ledge when Peter fell quite a considerable distance. The Mountain Rescue were called out but Peter had suffered multiple injuries and died at the crag.

Peter had recently finished his PhD at Lancaster and had just started working there as a Post Doctorate researcher continuing the work he started on flood modelling.

He was always so concerned about the environment and helping others.  His dog, Suki, was a rescue and was a well known sight around Kendal and Lancaster where he lived and the huts and bothies where he climbed.

Rather than ask for flowers from his friends and family, we would like to give people the opportunity to donate to support some of the charities and causes that were close to him - Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team who responded to the callout, The Conservation Volunteers (previously BCTV) who taught Peter how to build drystone walls and hedges, South Lakeland MIND and The Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust who help rehome Akitas like Suki.

We will look to dispense the money by the end of June 2018 and it will be managed by his brother John and his sisters Rachel and Alison.

Thanks,

Alison
