Memorial Arbor Building Fund

Donation protected

For nearly 18 years, the Oglala Commemoration has taken place on the Pine Ridge Reservation, SD. What began as a remembrance of the tragic events that took place on June 26th, 1975 has bloomed into something bigger. A prayerful gathering for the lives lost during the Reign of Terror, and to demand the release of political prisoner, Leonard Peltier. This annual event has been, and will always be a FREE event, open to the public. There has always been a community feast, memorial walk, guest speakers, and ceremony. Many years there have been concerts for the youth, pow-wows, runs for freedom, and more. Some of the fruits of this labor of love, are an annual scholarship, awarded to a deserving student to attend college. School supply drives, so that the young people of the area can have the much needed provisions to attend class. Toy drives benefiting the more impoverished children of the area. Annual honorings of the elder warriors who gave their all in the struggle. Even a talent contest and show for regional artists. A few years ago, a memorial marker was placed at the site where Joseph Killsright Stuntz was gunned down. Dozens of celebrities have joined us at the annual gathering over the years, and dozens more have shown their support. The Oglala Lakota Nation has declared June 26th, to be Leonard Peltier Day. In keeping with those traditions, the Oglala Commemoration Committee, a non-profit, charitable organization, has pledged to help upkeep the property of the Jumping Bull ranch, where the events took place on that terrible day, 42 years ago. To that end, we would like to have an arbor placed at the gathering sight. This arbor will be dedicated to the Grandmothers who have walked on, those who never faltered in their support for Leonard Peltier's freedom. The location where the house once stood will be filled in and the arbor will be built by local craftsmen. If you can find it in your heart, and your wallet, to make even a small donation, this Memorial Arbor can become a reality this year. Every single dollar donated, is a step closer to this becoming a reality. If you are unable to donate financially, please take a moment to share this link. Thank you in advance
