Melissa's Cancer Expense Campaign

On March 17, 2016, the most benevolent woman I know, Melissa Terkhorn, was diagnosed with breast cancer (stage II invasive ductal carcinoma). One month later, she underwent her first chemo treatment, and two weeks after that she celebrated her 39th birthday. Her last chemo treatment is scheduled for the end of July, which will be followed by surgery in August. Assuming a timely and full recovery from surgery, 36 treatments of radiation will then begin in September. We are choosing to be hopeful and patiently await the opportunity to celebrate Melissa's freedom from cancer in October.
With Melissa's full treatment plan not even being half over, she has already incurred over $4,000 in uncovered medical expenses. We expect the total amount of uncovered expenses to easily exceed $10,000 by year-end. In addition to these overwhelming medical expenses, Melissa's income will be significantly impacted in the next few months due to time off work for treatments and sickness from those treatments.
I'm not starting this campaign because Melissa "deserves" financial support (which is consistent with her biblical beliefs) - I'm starting this campaign because I love her, respect her, and know she just needs an abundance of grace in her time of legitimate need. Melissa's priorities in this season of her life are to: 1) maintain as much normalcy as possible for her daughter, 2) continue providing for her daughter's and her own basic needs, 3) fulfill her financial commitment to her school loan agreements, and 4) avoid significant debt. As I'm sure everyone who knows Melissa personally can attest to, her character is one of responsibility and kindness. I wish to honor that and care for her in this financial way and hope you will join me in doing so.
To those who are not in a position to support Melissa in a financial way, we ask that you NOT donate, but rather support her in other loving and personal ways.
