"Melia Grace was born 6/21 6lbs 8oz.
Immediately after birth, Melia had severe blistering on both feet that had to be bandaged right away. Soon after that she started developing blisters in her mouth. 14 hours after giving birth we were rushed to Children’s Hospital Nicu ICU. Melia has a rare skin condition that is not cure-able. Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Epidermolysis bullosa is a group of genetic conditions that cause the skin to be very fragile and to blister easily. Blisters and skin erosions form in response to minor injury or friction, such as rubbing or scratching. She will be prone to these types of blisters for the rest of her life. We are doing our best to prevent an infection on her already open wounds and getting them to heal as well as trying to help her eat as best she can through the blisters in her mouth so she can get all the nutrients she needs to grow and stay our healthy beautiful baby girl. We will be here indefinitely. As Val and I sit here each day taking care of Melia and learning as much as we can, the world continues to move around us. We are so grateful that we not only have the most amazing and supportive families, and that Melia has the best big sisters in the whole world, but also that we are in the absolute right place getting the best care possible." -Heather

Baby Melia has a long road ahead of her, including the need for a feeding tube, and her parents need all of the strength they can get.
