Young Musician's first instrument

I am a junior in high school and will soon be visiting colleges to meet professors and audition. As of now I am using a school fox student oboe and it is hindering my progress to the level I need to achieve before I go off to college. My family is doing its best to save up or find financing options, but we are having financial troubles. My family has been relying on my mother's salary alone as a teacher to support me, my younger sister, and my older brother in college. My father lost his job due to the company moving out of state about three years ago. As a result, all of my musical experiences and goals have been held in the balance of whether or not I can get a scholarship. Still, I work hard and am very grateful to all who have supported me through my endeavors and hope to take the next step by getting a good instrument. Thank You.
