Hello everyone, my name is Megan Weaver and I am getting married next year on July 3rd and I wanted to do something different instead of taking a bachelorette trip. I have chosen to do a solo trip to New Orleans, a place I've never been to before, and support four non profit organizations. I currently volunteer at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles and have worked with other local non profit organizations. I have decided to take my efforts outside of the Los Angeles area. I have chosen three, driven by my desire for diversity in my efforts:
1. Angel's Place: works with families and children diagnosed with life-threating illnesses, including cancer. They also provide children's respite care and other aid to clients in the greater New Orleans area.
2. Habitat for Humanity: building homes to help eliminate substandard housing and provide housing for families and empower homeownership. Working specifically with the "Women Build" progam, which is led, managed, and staffed entirely by women.
3. Harry Tompson Center: provides day shelter for homeless people and helps provide basic needs for hygiene. In addition,the center helps people to find employment and housing. It also provides treatment for addiction and mental illness to help them readjust to mainstream society.
Contributions will go towards providing necessary items to help each non profit continue to help the community. Money will be divided equally among the organizations.
Habitat for Humanity items needed: buiding materials, furniture, applicances, flooring etc.
Angel's Place: arts and craft supplies, toys, books, games, blankets, etc
Harry Tompson Center: belts, shoes, canes, water bottles, laundry detergent, small toiletries, hygiene supplies, snacks, insect repellent, etc
I am requesting that all contributions be received before May 12th 2017.
This trip, with its purpose to help others is important to me because I believe "to whom much is given much is required. " I may not be rich financially but I am blessed to have loving parents and a great fiance in my life who have shown me the importance of positively impacting the lives of other people.
I would be so thankful for any donation that is given and will also document my journey as well so that those who have contributed towards my journey can see the impact that has been made.
