Megan Derbes Medical Fund

I am starting this Go Fund Me on behalf of Megan and Ray Derbes. On May 31, 2019 Megan was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. Ewing's Sarcoma is a rare form of cancer typically found in people aged 10-20. The fact that Megan is 25, falling outside the typical parameters, is what makes her diagnosis even more baffling. Her doctors said that there was a 1 in 500,000 chance possibility of someone her age being diagnosed with this illness.
Ewing's Sarcoma is a type of cancer that is known to come back and is very "smart". It can mutate to become immune to chemo. So her doctors have decided to be very aggressive with her treatments. She will do 4 months of Chemo (starting the week of June 24, 2019), then radiation. After 4 weeks of allowing her soft tissue to heal they will move on to surgery. The tumor that she has is on the lowest rib on her left side. They will have to remove the tumor, the rib, and possibly her left kidney. The doctors tell them that the tumor has demolished her rib. They actually cannot see the rib due to the tumor. Also because of the size and location of the tumor it has severely displaced her kidney.  The kidney will most likely have to be removed because the aggressive radiation and chemotherapy will target the tumor and the surrounding soft tissue. Unfortunately this means it will most likely destroy her kidney. After the surgery they will do 6 more months of Chemo. As you can see Megan will have a very long road to recovery. However, her doctors (as well as Megan and her family) are very optimistic.

Megan and Ray have only been married a little over a year. Prior to the diagnosis they were planning on trying to have a baby within the coming months. However, the cancer diagnosis has thrown a small loop in their plans.  With the help of Megan's parents, they have been undergoing IVF with the hopes of having a baby once she is clear and cancer free.

Currently, Megan and Ray are living with Megan's parents. Ray is working nights at a new job and Megan cannot be left by herself. She needs to have someone with her at all times. In the coming months Megan, Ray, and their families will be tested mentally, physically, and emotionally. The cost of the IVF alone has already cost them $10,000. However, it is necessary to do since they want to have children in the future. The chemo, radiation, and surgeries will cost even more than that. Megan and Ray did not ask for anyone to do a donation page for them. However, I know that our community always steps up to help when one of our own needs it.

Also, a meal train has been set up if you would like to help by sending food!! Anything at all is appreciated! Meal Train Link

If you know Megan then you know that she always has a smile on her face and she is one of the most genuinely kind people that you will ever meet. She is an absolute sweetheart and would never ask for help. Instead, she is usually the one giving the help. Lets help Megan and her family in the coming weeks, months, and years.  They will need our community to rally around them. I personally know that rallying around people in need is something our community is known for and are proud of! They do not know yet what the cost of the treatments and the surgery will be, so we are starting the donation page now to help them when the time comes. That way they will not have to worry about medical bills during this difficult time.
