Meela Moon: Recovery Journey

Meela was at the local shelter, and they were losing hope for someone to help this truly kind (but deeply injured) dog. The drastic gash on her face had kept others from taking a risk on her, but this sweet spirit truly called out to us while we were walking by, and we felt compelled to step out and take the risk to help her.
We are sharing her story now with you, and hope that you might join us in bringing hope to miss Meela, and shining light on the next stage of her healing journey.
After a wonderful Bella Volunteer made the trip to the shelter to bring Ms Moon to a more comfortable place to heal, she was taken to our friends at Summit Vet Hospital. When they began to examine her and clean the wound, they quickly realized this was not just a simple wound, but part of a larger injury.
There was not enough healthy skin to stitch her up, so the wound will have to heal from the inside out. And to make matters worse, when they took x-rays of her jaw (after she had shown some obvious discomfort), they discovered that her jaw had at least two fractures. They did a simple taped muzzle to secure the jaw, and begin the process of healing. We never thought her case would be easy, but not it has become quite a different type of challege...but once we commit, we will never give up, even on an animal we have just met.
This is the care that she has received so far. Sedation while they were cleaning and preparing the wound. A physical exam, radiographs, wound therapy, daily hydrotherapy, manibular symphysical repair,pain meds, antibiotics, anti inflammatory meds, taped muzzle to stabilize the jaw, ecollar worn 24/7 to allow proper healing and blended syringed special diet prescription diet i/d daily. So that is a bit of a technical way of saying that this crew is doing everything they can to make sure that this young pup, heals completely for an incredibly fulfilling and long life. Her journey ahead is long, but she will never again be alone.
I'm not sure that our pictures or even the video above do justice to how immensely sweet this dog is. The crew at Summit immediately fell in love with her, and are substantially reducing costs to help her. Their practice manager even stepped up to foster her, all the while knowing that she would need to be fed by a syringe while her jaw is healing. With how these people have jumped at the chance to help miss Meela, how can we stand idly by?
You can see Meela was super excited and gave our Executive Director kisses when she found out that we were not giving up on her. Hope truly is a powerful thing.
Timing is understandably difficult with the hurricanes and other national needs going on right now, but we believe every animal deserves the best care possible and even though the cost and time to make her well again are high, we will not turn our backs on Meela Moon.
We know this little girl will make someone a fantastic best friend once she is healed, and that is only a possiblity due to your help, as we all band together. Whether your gift is $5, $20, $200, or $500, every bit of support matters and makes a huge difference. And we also can't stress enough how much it helps when you share on your social media channels.
