GIVING TUESDAY: Help save the life of a premature baby!
Last month, Lao Friends Hospital for Children opened a newly expanded Neonatal Unit. The hospital needed more neonatal beds because the number of premature babies brought to LFHC has dramatically increased. Without the specialized medical care provided at the unit, these babies have virtually no chance of surviving.
The hospital now has room for 25 neonatal beds, which triples the amount of space in the former unit. We now need to hire 10 nurses to staff the expanded unit. And we need to buy new equipment, additional medications and such consumables as diapers, vitamins and feeding tubes.
So we ask you for help. The hospital has no major benefactor. Nor does it have government funding. Friends Without A Border raises all of the money needed to operate the hospital. The facility is the only pediatric teaching hospital in the entire northern half of Laos. Children receive free, compassionate medical care. And no child is ever turned away.

The story of Friends Without A Border begins with the conviction that no child should ever be denied life-saving medication. More than two decades ago, acclaimed photographer Kenro Izu founded Friends after witnessing a young girl die in a Cambodian hospital because her family couldn’t afford a $2 drug. Since then, we’ve been providing free medicine and medical care to children in Southeast Asia – nearly two million children.
Lao Friends Hospital for Children, located in Luang Prabang, is the ONLY pediatric teaching hospital in the northern half of Laos. Doctors and nurses there have treated more than 30,000 children to date -- at no cost to their families. And the hospital has trained hundreds of Lao medical professionals.
LFHC is the second hospital built in Southeast Asia by Friends Without A Border. The first, Angkor Hospital for Children, was built in 1999 and was the first pediatric teaching hospital in Cambodia. All operations of AHC were transferred to Cambodian management a few years ago as planned.
