Medical Relief for Sri Lanka

What Happened?

On April 21st Easter Sunday a state of emergency had been declared. Six simultaneous bombings had taken place in 3 churches (St Anthony's Shrine, Zion Church and St. Sebastians) and 3 hotels (Cinnamon Grande, Shang-Ri La and Kingsbury). The bombings that took place at the churches were targeted towards people congregated for Easter Sunday. The hotel bombings have targeted tourists and foreigners on travels.

The reported casualties are currently over 320 deaths and 500 injured, including 45 children dead.

Who are we?

We are the Australian South Asian Healthcare Association (ASHA) is a multi-disciplinary collection of graduates from fields including optometry, dietetics, medicine, law, commerce, and many others.

We recognise the wide discrepancies in healthcare access around the world and seek to address this in the South Asian region and at home in Australia through medical projects that fall into five domains:

Children's Health
Maternal Health
Eye Care
Non-Communicable disease and Health Education
Access to Surgery (Surgical Programs)

We have branches at University of Melbourne, Monash University, James Cook University and University of Queensland.

Relief Fund

All funds raised, except any GoFundMe processing fees, will be donated directly to the hospitals to medically aid the victims affected.

The target is set to $4,000, hoping to exceed this goal and distribute funds among the casualties needing support.

The sooner we raise funds the faster we can support the victims affected by the devastating event.
