The first part of the story:

And as I like to think of it, the first two dominoes to fall. I've now been through a PET scan, several oncology appointments and two months of chemotherapy. I'm starting my next 12-week chemotherapy treatment, before even getting to surgery. And the medical bills have piled up. I have insurance, but my deductible (not to mention the monthly premium) is staggering and draining my finances.
I'm still working, as much as I can, but it is physically draining; it's difficult for me to do much around the house. My children have been awesome, taking on so many responsibilities around here: mowing the lawn, taking care of our dog and two cats, cleaning and cooking. However, the next domino is about to go: in the next week, all three of them will be leaving for school; to Illinois, California, and the Netherlands.
Which means airfare expenses, school expenses, and no more help at home. I'll have to hire out for yard work and snow plowing, just one more expense, yet another domino falling. What we used to do with a few shovels on a snowy morning, I can't do alone anymore.
There's also the regular household expenses and the need to take in a housemate to help alleviate some of these costs, just to keep our family home.
One final domino: I won't be able to care for our family dog. My ex-husband will take Harpo, that's not a problem, but he lives in a rental and will have to cover the additional deposit and rent for having a pet.
As I continue this journey, and my children begin theirs, I hope we can find some help to keep us from falling too far behind. Please know that we are just looking for a little boost, something to keep the dominoes from falling too quickly and creating too much havoc.
Peace and love to all.
