Medical Funds For My Son & Daughter

This is a mother's cry for help. My name is Grace and I am a mother of four, living in Chicago, IL.

My story:

I gave birth to my fourth child, after giving birth to three healthy children. My fourth child - my son Andrew, has special needs. While I was pregnant with him, doctors warned me that something was very wrong with my baby and that there was a possibility he would come out stillborn. They told me that I could terminate the pregnancy, but taking life went against my beliefs. It still does, to this day. I had hope and wanted to give him the opportunity to live, so I carried on with the pregnancy for nine whole months. When he was finally born, the doctors had to perform an emergency 8-hour surgery on Andrew. He was born with many complications, and they did what they needed to do to keep him alive.

I choose not to disclose the details of Andrew's disabilities to the public, to protect him. Let's just say, Andrew did not look like other babies when he was born... but to me, he was the most beautiful baby in the world. After some time had passed since Andrew's birth, it was becoming more clear to me that he needed more treatment, more procedures, and ultimately, life-long care. My husband and I came to the painful realization that we could no longer afford to care for him. To give him the chance to live a healthy and good life, we gave him up for adoption. Our hope was for Andrew to learn to live with his disabilities, get an education, and make something of his life. As it turns out, however, the complete opposite happened. I only found this out recently. After 36 years had gone by, during which time I had not seen him or heard about how was doing, he called to tell me about his urgent health condition.

Present times...
I am asking for your help because I cannot help my son, whom I shared about, and my daughter. I am now 69 years old with a husband who has been diagnosed with cancer. We live on a very small income of $1,300/month - the majority of which goes to rent, utilities, and food. My husband and I only can only afford to sustain our basic needs to live. Which would be fine, if our children were also not in need.  I am trying to help them the best I can, but my resources are so limited. As a mother, it hurts to know that I cannot come to my son and daughter's aid.

Both my son and daughter need a kidney transplant but I am unable to give them my own as I was diagnosed with cancer years ago - my age also plays a factor. My son is on the list to receive a kidney transplant, which will be covered by his insurance. However, the post-surgery treatment will not be covered. My daughter has two damaged kidneys and but not on the waiting list to receive a transplant or care.

In addition to the kidney transplant, both my son and daughter have disabilities. Both live out of state. The disability checks they receive are not enough for them to live comfortably - not enough to cover their bills. They are barely surviving. I am normally not a woman who asks people for help - some call this prideful- but, I worry out of the hesitation that people may be reluctant to help considering that there are so many other people out there who are in worse situations - and who are in desperate need.

I know that God has something in store for my children. And, I know that there are so many people who are in worse situations, but if there is some kind of light and hope for my children to see happiness, I want to help them find that through the kindness and help of others.

I was diagnosed with cancer years ago and survived. My husband was also diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. We have been through a lot as a family, but have always believed that God provides miracles. God is still with us today.

Everyone has a story and this story is my truth. If you can find it in your heart to donate to my family; it can even be as small as $1.  Anything will help. I know that times are hard, but I am hopeful and believe that there are kind, giving human beings in the world. I do not know what else to say, I've never done anything like this before. I have faith that God will provide. I thank you for donating, and even if you can't, God bless you all.

1.12.18 Update about my daughter:

I wanted to take time to thank everyone who read a mother's cry for help. God heard my cry for help before people heard it and he has made a major miracle happen. My daughter is on the list for a kidney. She is as poor as could be, but blessed in so many other ways. I am taking time to thank whoever read my funding page. God blessed you all even though you wanted to help but couldn't afford to. She has been trying to get on the list for a kidney since 2010, but was never able to be put on. Her social worker made it her mission to put my daughter on the list for a kidney. Now she is on the list. For those who believe in miracles, they do come true. This happened one day before Christmas. For those who believe in miracles, there are miracles everyday. There are a lot of good people out there that are waiting to believe in miracles. If you start believing like I do, you will start seeing miracles as well. I thank you with all my heard, mind, body and spirit for taking the time to read this. Is she going to need more help down the road? Yes she is, but now she has hope. God bless you all and may God watch over you and your family. Please donate what you can and if you can't, that is okay too. We take rejection well. Thank you for taking the time to read this. May God answer your needs.
